Century Fall Market

As the market has moved full speed toward the contemporary  lifestyle, today's consumer have been pulled along regardless of whether they are really contemporary or not. Indeed the overuse of the term "Transitional" now has the majority of consumers confused as to what is contemporary versus transitional design. Many consumers call themselves transitional, when in fact they are actually more prone to a cleaned up traditional style with finishes that are updated.

To fit this need Century introduced Bridgeton, a collection that stands firmly between traditional and transitional. Avoiding overt ornamentation typical of traditional furniture, Bridgeton instead gains interest in its subtle details and proportions. One detail is the interplay between straight surfaces and the circle motif found in both the hardware and a moulding used in several pieces.

On many of the pieces, the bronze, ring pull hardware is the only rounded surface making it a very graphic impact against the otherwise linear forms. While the hardware, fluted posts and forms are all very classical, the repetition and proportions of these elements make them inherently more modern.
The cases are crafted of solid maple and walnut with figured walnut veneers. The selection of figured walnut allows the pieces a more casual tone than traditional mahogany veneers and the Bridgeton finish, a warm brown stain in a low sheen, gives them an easy elegance, softer and more subtle than the high sheens often found in traditional furniture.

In addition to the wood, the hardware and metal accents are brass in a rich, brushed bronze finish. The subtle warmth of the bronze rests in the middle of the spectrum between the polished brass of traditional and the cool, chrome of contemporary furniture. A smoky mirror ac- cent is also used on one of the nightstands and consoles.

Updated traditional or classic transitional; however you describe it Bridgeton is sophisticated and beautiful design. With delicate proportions, jewelry hardware and a range of forms, this is a collection that will appeal to consumers of all descriptions.

The cooler weather of fall and the holiday season, puts attention back on the home. Dreamy yet dramatic, familiar but not expected - the saturated hues of inky blues, sapphire and lapis combine with the fantastical prints of florals and vines to create a modern romance. Century pulls this forward with modern pieces creating a wonderland of surprise and delight.

For a long time calling oneself a traditionalist was out of favor, but in us all is an appreciation for the forms and classic details that are at the heart of traditional style. Many of today's consumers call themselves transitional, and what we find is that they mean clean traditional. Century showcases a fresh traditional for that customer who is in between.
